If saving the planet is not sufficiently convincing > personalized, reworked and restored pieces are the best style indicator, essence of a true luxury and such a good emotional support to yourself, because it’s you, for you and by you!!

“Your style is unique as you are unique and everything needs to communicate that. Repurposing, upcycling and custom clothing is the most amazing possibility to contribute to your authenticity (& planet). I remember when I was eight years old, my girlfriend asked me why I never look like everyone else with a bit of annoyance. Because I was already wearing my grandpa’s thermal sweats (cropped), his shirts, my grandmas’s dresses and pajamas (she had super cool ones with little flowers on cotton), my other grandmas’s jewelry and all kind of weird thrift shop stuff sourced from my extended family. Mom wouldn’t let me borrow her clothes, so I just had to be creative sourcing my pieces from everyone else who was willing to open their treasuries to me. My first runway show in school was made of all kinds of pajamas, sous dresses and cut into pieces wedding gowns - it was a big success because one person offered to buy all the pieces, & I also realized I wanted to play with clothing - deep down I felt it’s my vocation and that’s what I want to pursue. So when I come into someone’s closet and start altering pieces, you can see my face lighting up. And I share all that good energy with everyone involved in the process. It’s not only sustainable, authentic to you because no one will have the same piece, and teaches you more subtle ways to coordinate looks. Also it’s the most satisfying feeling of being in charge of your own destiny: long, short, embroidered, covered or decolleted - you decide and you make it happen! With me guiding you at first.

what I re-worked for myself:
- open neck because it shows off my jewelry, and gives more space for my face and I happen to have nice clavicles and shoulders too. So I show them off every time I can.
- cropped pants (unless it’s a wide leg European cut) to make me look more proportionate - standard pants look most of the time too short on me, so I just cut them a tiny bit to make them look “short on purpose”.
- too many labels on your sneakers - let’s take small scissors and get to work!! Make them unrecognizable. I did that to my Riccardo Tisci Air Forces, and everyone is always wondering what kind of shoes are those.
- bored of a coat? what if we swap buttons to something new and exciting?! Remove the collar? Add or take out the pockets. Fix two thick ribbons to both sides to make a belt.
- make slits on your sweater - open the sides to make it sexier. I do that a lot, especially on classic cut of masculine V or crew necks.
- too much details - will always end up being removed in my closet. Less is more (phrase forged minimalist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe) or quoting Gabrielle Chanel - is a truly great advice. I even remove little annoying bows from lingerie, because they make it too girly.
- a belt, fringe and buttons on one garment? let’s choose one element, everything else goes away! that’s the best method to make pieces look more expensive - remove something (see above).
- a dress that looks too weird, heavy and precious? split it into a top and a skirt! or maybe the top can have additional contrasting color fabric and become a new version that is joyful and fun and very creative. I did that with a velvet panel Proenza Shouler dress, & now I have a new one with the top part and a fabulous skirt that I can’t get enough of!”.

bring back passion into your old skirts >

You went through your closet, some items were donated, some resold, what about that pile you don’t know what to do with? This is when you need to call us because we make magic from stuck in motion clothes, furniture and jewelry.

WHY make reusing effort first of all?! The volume of clothing Americans throw away each year has doubled in the last 20 years, from 7 to 14 million tons. In 2018, 17 million tons of textile waste ended up in landfills, according to data from the EPA, making up 5.8 percent of the total waste generated that year. What about the statistics for the whole world?!

According to the World Resources Institute, it takes 2,700 liters of water to make one cotton shirt. And textiles can take up to 200+ years to decompose in landfills.

Why don’t we save from landfill things that could be reinvented?!

reworking your possessions:
- makes you different. HOW: because no one will have what you do!!
- promotes sustainable lifestyle. HOW: by simply saving stuff from being thrown away!
- sparks your creativity. HOW: making you think how to re-use something in a meaningful way suddenly you rise as a creator instead of just being a consumer.

Recent analysis by a popular resale company revealed a surge in used clothing purchases that almost equals obsessive consumerism patterns of the fast fashion. So, my confusion here - we need to learn how to keep and reuse!! Don’t go the easiest way and just keep buying. Look for newness in your own closet, and make it more special, distinctive, and eccentric by reworking your things!!

examples of what could be achieved >
- think about remaking: a short jacket out of a coat, 90’s inspired handbag out of a clutch, a scarf out of a wrap skirt.
- you like a dress but it doesn’t fit you anymore? what about making a top out of it, using the fabric for a belt or kitchen cupboard curtains? Or maybe wrapping a gift in it.
- if something is too small or too big - that’s a pretty easy fix. Let’s find you a good seamstress if you don’t have one yet.
- you will feel such a huge satisfaction after fixing all the broken pieces and rejudging all the outfits.
- we will figure out what makes you the most appealing and will alter most of the items to emphasize that (beautiful legs?! a super nice cleavage or tiny waist?! - let’s show it!).
- have an old workwear jacket that is worn, faded and almost holed? we will embroider it with super cool matching color lace and beads to make it a work of art!

FOUNDER OF JUNETHINGS: making clothes of your own is always an exciting adventure, so dare to play with them - my seamstress is already used to me cutting pieces into something new. She doesn’t blink when I bring her a Chanel jacket, of which I am adjusting the collar, just mentions “keep the collar for those times when you’ll wish to have that classic cut jacket back (which is a bit boring, boxy and stuffy), and you bet that will never happen, anyway I kept the collar for my next venture. Because I love reusing, reclaiming and making things on my own. Some hybrid creature of my future closet with have a Chanel collar!
